Remember the time when we used to consider the display, design and camera pixels when buying new smartphones. Well, this isn’t the case anymore. Believing, smartphones on-paper specs are just the half story. 2017 has a new trend of dual rear cameras which we never expected in none other than flagships. Now, there are lots of recently launched dual camera phones under budget. If you’re willing to buy a smartphone with dual rear camera under Rs 20,000. Believe me, you can find a DSLR like camera in this affordable price-conscious segment. If you’re a professional photography enthusiast, you can own a DSLR competing affordable dual camera device.
Smartphones with the dual rear camera capture excellent portrait shots with better details & natural colors. In the camera setup, one is the primary colored sensor whereas the second one is a sensor which collects secondary information which may differ smartphone by smartphone.
Dual Rear camera from different manufacturers serves the different purpose. Some of them are ideal for wide angle photographs. However, few for 2x lossless zoom, portrait shots & better details.
So primarily, it depends on the user, what type of secondary sensor he/she needs. If you often shoot objects which are far definitely the telephoto lens which offers 2x zoom without any loss can shoot better. Or if you need a broad angle feel, the wide angle sensor would be an excellent choice.
If you’re impressed by the flagship dual camera phones(Note 8, iPhone X, LG V30) or the mid-ranger (Nokia 8, Oneplus 5 or Honor 8 Pro). Then check out these best budget dual camera phone under 20,000 which has comparative performance in affordable price.

[su_tab title=”Monochrome Sensor”]
Monochrome camera sensors are capable of getting a lot more detail about the subject. The shots with a monochrome sensor results to have higher dynamic range & images are pretty sharp. A monochrome sensor tends to capture 3X more light than a regular color sensor. They left the color reproduction and further parts to the main color sensor, however, the monochrome sensor preserves the secondary information. Both the images were then combined resulting in excellent shots with excellent sharpness and better details.
A monochrome sensor is also capable of creating a bokeh effect when the subject is near. Moto G5s Plus, Lenovo K8 Note has a monochrome lens as a secondary camera.
[su_tab title=”Telephoto Lens”]
A telephoto lens has a larger focal length, so it can capture distant objects with better detail. Such type of lens offers 2X lossless zoom. So without any loss in the quality of the image, you can zoom it 2x with better object vision.
Unlike, the monochrome sensor, the shots using this lens are incredible, best portrait for the distant photography. Oneplus 5, iPhone 7 plus has a secondary telephoto lens.
[su_tab title=”Wide-Angle Lens”]
The main priority of the wide-angle lens is to capture the more subject. That’s why, images taken with this sensor gives the wider feel. The color reproduction is also better in case of wide lens.
Such lenses can focus more subject at a time. A wide-angle lens is more efficient for the selfie camera. If you often take group selfies. Smartphones such as LG V30, LG G6 has such wide-angle lens to capture wider shots.
[su_tab title=”Depth Sensor”] A depth sensor is mainly concerned with the reproduction of excellent depth of field shots. These sensors are far intelligent to sense the actual depth of the subject.
However, a depth lens can be used in combination with any other sensor for better performance. Leica is one such brand which uses all these sensors in a single dual-camera setup. And the images captured with those Leica cameras are always rich in colors, dynamic range, excellent sharpness.
Best Dual Camera Smartphones (January 2018)
[table id=31 /]
Xiaomi Mi A1 had gone official near the mid of the September. The only smartphone from Xiaomi with a dual rear camera setup in India. MIA1 has dual 12MP + 12MP rear cameras. One is a regular f/2.2 aperture, and secondary one is a telephoto lens and has a f/2.6 aperture.
With the combination, Mi A1 can capture awesome pictures with the bokeh mode. The secondary camera also offers 2x zoom without that much loss in the quality of the photograph.
The primary 12MP camera captures the image, and the secondary f/2.6 camera adds lot more detail to it with better color reproduction. The telephoto lens senses the depth & blurs out the background with its own intelligence, however, keeping the object as it is.
Though, it has almost the same design as we’d seen in OnePlus 5 or iPhone 7 Plus, it looks pretty with the aluminum unibody, and it actually rocks. It has 5.5 inches Full HD display with slightly cooler display colors. It has gorilla glass 3 protection.
Xiaomi MI A1 has 3080mAh battery size pretty enough to last a day long, but the charging part sucks actually. It takes around 2:20 hours to completely charge which is disappointing. Positively, MI A1(5X Globally) has the most elegant portrait camera in this range. Though, Xiaomi compared its dual camera setup with flagships like OnePlus 5 & iPhone 7 Plus but still, it’s not up to the competition. Apparently, similar looking phones doesn’t mean they’re actually similar from the hardware part as well. I bet, you could not find any better camera comparing the Mi A1, if you’re sick of portrait photography. Any of the phones can perform decently when the subject is close, but when the distance fairly increases they tend to blur the object edges as well, Xiaomi’s 2x lossless zoom actually preserves the details & able to sense the objects properly.
There are some department where Mi A1 lacks, low-light photography, the video capturing and selfie, I guess. Videos shot with this device are bit shaky only due to the missing stabilization (EIS or OIS). Apparently, similar looking phones doesn’t mean they’re actually similar from the hardware part as well. As it’s an article about the best dual camera phones, I wouldn’t be talking a much about it so can read MI A1 full review here.
The smartphone is priced at Rs 14,999 & it would be available through a Flipkart flash sale. Honestly, if you need a smartphone for portrait photography under 20,000 Xiaomi mi a1 is one of the best options to choose from.

2. Moto G5s Plus
The special edition of the successor of the Moto G5 has been official. The aluminum uni-body adds lots to the design and the build quality. There’re fewer departments where Motorola has improved from the predecessors, the camera part a lot. Moto G5s Plus features dual rear camera setup. The rear camera values 13 megapixels each.
I guess, it’s not more than 4-5 months the G5 Plus was launched, but the newer model just got tons of improvements under the hood. The 5.5 inches display from the 5.2″ inches, upgrading from 3GB to 4GB of RAM, aluminum uni-body rather the plastic with lots of polish in the camera part.
The dual camera setup includes, regular RGB color sensor and the second one is a depth-sensing lens. The secondary 13MP camera senses the depth & creates incredible arty pictures like DSLR. With the use of the secondary camera, better portraits can be taken. I’ve found g5s plus struggling in the low light. It adds lots of vibrance to the pictures, so they look horrible. There an 8MP front camera with a led flash. G5s plus has best selfie camera within its range. However, the g5s plus camera has nothing extra-ordinary & has no competition with Apple or Huawei camera but still looking at the budget, it can be used for decent photography.
Moto offers pure stock android feel, that’s a significant addition, of course comparing to the bulky custom skinned UI’s. Unlike, the G5 Plus, Moto G5s Plus has a hybrid sim card slot. Under the hood, G5s Plus gets enough power to perform the daily heavy task without any lag from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC. The fingerprint sensor is there on the front, mounted on the virtual button and it’s pretty fast. Once you touch the finger, it instantly unlocks the device.
Moto too has lots of gestures and moto display is somehow popular among them. There are gestures like, chopping the device twice glows the flashlight, twist your wrist twice to open the camera. Instead of a notification led light, moto g5s plus has a moto display it’s pretty impressive which glows with every notification or when the device has some movement.
Moto G5s Plus has fast charging support. Moto 12W adapter comes sealed in the box contents. The turbocharger can charge from 20% to 80 % within 40-45 minutes. In my opinion, this device offers superior user experience with the great camera addition. It is priced at Rs. 15,999 for the 4GB + 64GB(the only one) variant. Motorola is expected to launch Moto X4, the performance is going to be far beyond. However, it might be priced a thousand or two bucks more than 20,000. If Moto X4 will be priced, near to 20,000 their wouldn’t be any competition in the range.
[table id=22 /]
3. Honor 9i
Huawei’s sub-brand Honor has unveiled another affordable smartphone. This smartphone has four cameras, two at the rear and two at the front. Alike, the dual rear camera setup, the front one can also capture awesome bokeh effect pictures. Some of the Huawei’s smartphone has Leica branding, considered to be the finest camera in the industry. So, definitely, Honor 9i would have good cameras.
The rear setup includes a 16MP regular camera lens and the second one is a 2MP telephoto sensor. Similarly, the front camera values 13MP & a 2MP dual camera setup. Both the secondary lenses are for sensing the actual layers of the object. So that rest of the part can be blurred out resulting in remarkable portraits.
The main USP of this smartphone would be the quad cameras. However, rest of the Honor 9i is just okay! It comes with kirin 659 Cortex A53 processor. Huawei Honor 9i has 4GB of RAM size and 64GB of the physical storage expandable with a hybrid sim slot.
It has 5.9 inches display with 18:9 aspect ratio. So you’ll get a more prominent display without actually increment in the smartphone size. With the minimal bezels, Honor 9i looks pretty. It has 3340mAh battery size with a regular USB Type B charger.
The dual rear camera and fewer bezels was a trend of 2017, so this is what we’ve got in Honor 9i. But still the two megapixels secondary camera to be tested if it can actually take better portraits than the competition.
Honor 9i isn’t available right now to buy. Its flash sale will be there from 14th October. This phone may face lag during heavy gaming. BTW we’re not yet judging this phone without actually inspecting the guts. This review will be updated with ample more details about it.

4. Nubia Z17 Mini
Almost the same device with half price cut. ZTE Nubia Z17 mini is the smaller version of the Z17. Nubia Z17 was a flagship killer. The dual camera setup with the more screen to body ratio was the just awesome. The mini version has 3 inches smaller display with the same design and impressive build quality. The rear panel of z17 mini looks charming.
The camera is the key point of this phone. With the dual rear camera setup, it can take excellent snaps with more accurate color, more details, good contrast, moderate exposure. Even the low light performance is better but adds bits of vibrance in the lack of natural light.
It has dual 13MP rear camera setup and 16MP front-facing camera. Camera performance is impressive within this range. It captures vibrant, yet natural colors and the 13MP black and wide lens add lots of details to the photo. Z17 mini has a pro mode(manual mode) where one can control every single detail. You can change exposure, contrast, light and shutter speed in the nubia professional mode. The combination of the rear dual cam setup captures incredible portraits with accurate blurring.
The standard edition is powered by Snapdragon 652 SoC processor and the special edition with SD653. And the Adreno 510 GPU. Z17 mini is available in two variants a 4GB & another has 6GB RAM size. It comes with 2960mAh battery and doesn’t support the fast charge, but it could charge 0 to 100% within 2 hours.
So overall Nubia Z17 mini is a great package considering the price tag it has. If you need a smartphone with awesome build & design with a great camera, thin bezels this is the best option you can choose in this range. If you’re a heavy user, the battery may suck!
[table id=24 /]
5. Coolpad Cool Play 6
Since the launch of Coolpad’s first smartphone, they’ve been just following the trend ongoing in the market. Or not? Each device after the other was built just to compete for another smartphone in the market with just a slight slash in prices. Well, Coolpad Cool Play 6 was something different I thought, and maybe yes it is. With the powerful specs, great camera & the affordable price was daydream from Coolpad.
Coolpad Cool Play 6 has 5.5 inches full HD display with navigation buttons below it. Cool Play 6 reminds LeEco Le 2 with the similarly positioned sensors and front-facing camera. With the backlit off, the device seems to have an edge to edge display, but actually, it’s not because it has thin black colored bezels. With the metallic body and rounded corners, Coolpad play 6 build seems pretty good.
The highly competitive smartphone range is getting furnished every year. Smartphones are getting more and more powerful. Interestingly, Cool Play 6 is the example. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 SoC processor with quad cores running maximum clock speed at 1.95GHz and another four at 1.44GHz.
Play 6 comes massive 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. The storage couldn’t be expanded because it uses a dedicated dual nano sim card slot. This device uses a dual rear camera to capture awesome bokeh enabled shots. Both the rear camera values 13MP each. The primary one is a regular RGB sensor and the second one is a monochrome lens. The secondary 13 megapixels camera lens can be used to capture the depth of field function or 2x lossless zoom. On the front, play 6 has 8 megapixels camera which comes with auto HDR, artificial beautification. Camera shots with Coolpad Cool Play 6 are just mediocre because the objects which are far the monochrome lens doesn’t collect better details and night shots with cool play 6 have lots of vibrance.
Overall, considering the price tag of just 14,999 Rs. it has managed to acquire this position. Obviously, it is pretty good on the spec sheet.
[table id=25 /]
6. Honor 7X
Seems, Honor has strategies just like Samsung likes to do in the budget segment. Samsung always unveils 3 or 4 smartphones with almost same specs and the pretty small difference in the pricing. Honor has already unveiled, the budget four camera smartphone Honor 9i in India with nearly identical pricing, 7X is coming soon. Honor is with the 2017 trend of having minimal bezels. So the Honor 7X features a 2:1 (the 18:9 called aspect ratio)display with trimmed bezels.
Following the predecessor(6X), 7X also features a complete aluminum uni-body design. Apparently, switching to a larger screen to body ratio would be having a larger display. Honor 7X rocks with a 5.93 inches Full HD display, however, the actual size of the smartphone is same as Honor 6X.
As discussed, there would not be any such difference considering on-paper specs in mind. Similar to Honor 9i, 7X also features Kirin 658 octa-core processor (A53 quad cores (clocked at 2.36GHz) and another four clocked at 1.7GHz)
Honor 7X features a 4GB RAM size along with three physical storage type variants a 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB. Maybe there will be dedicated memory card slot. So the memory expansion will be possible with an external sd card slot. Honor 7X is an IP67 certified, and we can’t expect an IP68 certified device at this price. So it can resist dust particles and could survive until 30cm deep water for half an hour. It has 3340mAh battery with quick charge support. Honor 7X will surely be getting Oreo update.
Coming to the most anticipated part in 2017, the camera performance. On-paper, honor 7x has dual 16MP + 2MP rear camera setup. The 16 megapixels primary camera is a regular lens, and the second one is a 2 megapixels telephoto lens. The combination of the configuration can produce awesome bokeh effect. Talking about the pictures shoot with Honor 7X, those snap have accurate colors; however, the green color looks bit warmer. Closer objects with less distance have excellent bokeh effect. There’s almost zero object blurring. While, when the objects have considerable distance(7-8 feet) I guess, Xiaomi MI A1 captures a lot better with the 2x lossless telephoto lens.
Front facing camera is average, unlike the Honor 9i, Honor 7X has a single front-facing camera. It’s an 8MP f/2.0 aperture camera. Though it’s unable to capture those wide-angle shots which Moto G5s Plus is capable off, but the 8 megapixels selfie shooter snaps better skin tones or maybe they’re artificial with the software part.
Overall, Honor 7X is just an average option to buy but still considering the price tag of just 15,999 INR it’s a good option for Honor lovers.
[table id=26 /]
7. Lenovo K8 Note
It’s not more than 5-6 months when the most competitive segment of the smartphone become powerful. Manufactures started to add features we used to expect in the flagships. Lenovo was the early comer to enter this world of the affordable device with the powerful spec sheet.
Finally, Lenovo has ditched its skinned UI, VIBE UI is more. Lenovo K8 Note has a complete stock android feel. It features a 5.5 inches 1090×1020 pixels display. There are two variants launched in India a 3GB with 32GB, and another is 4GB with a 64GB variant.
Comparing the predecessor, there are lots of improvements in this device. The camera, I can definitely mention. It features a setup of two cameras in the rear arranged vertically. The rear setup includes a 13MP + 5MP sensors. Primary one 13MP is used to capture the images, and secondary one’s function is to add more details of the object. It also creates the depth of field effect. The results were just okay! Sometimes it blurs the object edges as well, tends to ugly photographs.
The color reproduction is good. Theirs’s a professional mode as well where you can control the exposure, blurring shutter speed, focus and much more. Coming to the photographs in low light, the area where it can outrank most of the smartphone except the Moto G5s Plus. The f/2.2 aperture which manages to capture photos with comparatively less noise in the low light. It has a 13MP front-facing camera with a LED flash which does a good job even in the low light. It can only capture 720p videos at 30fps with specific stabilization.
Lenovo k8 note is powerful on spec, and it got a 4000mAh battery, a robust ten cores processor. It has MediaTek Helio X23(MT6797) SoC probably the powerful one in this range it can even outrank the Snapdragon 625. There are 10 cores in it four cores are clocked at 1.4GHz, another four at 1.85GHz and the rest two at 2.3GHz. Resulting in the higher benchmarks. It has heating issues if you’re a hardcore gamer you might need a break every 20-25 mins. It has got a good battery, but draining is the main issue. Its screen on time could be better comparatively the off time. Even if you keep the phone on a side, still the battery goes to drain.
Lenovo has rolled out a software update and claims to sort out the issues. Coming to the price, it costs 12,999 for the 3GB/32GB variant and 13,999 for the 4GB/64GB variant. It is exclusively available on Amazon.in.
[table id=27 /]
8. 10.or G
Tenor G(10.or G) is Chinese brand just stepped into the most competitive smartphone segment in India. 10.or has partnered with Amazon India for the sales. 10.OR G will be an Amazon India exclusive product. Tenor has only two smartphones in their list right now the one was 10.or E & now it’s 10.or G. 10.or G sale will be made through Amazon India and first sale will be made from 3rd October.
The highlighting of this device is the dual camera setup. 10.or g features a dual rear 13MP camera setup. The regular one is an RGB color sensor, and the second one is a monochrome lens. The monochrome sensor captures a lot better details and the shots with it are sharper. And the regular captures a normal colored photograph. Both the pictures then merged resulting in a single shot with better details, more sharpness.
And the 10.OR G actually does the same, the shots with 10.or g preserve better details. The portrait mode is where the 10.or g lacks, the secondary camera is unable to find the actual object resulting in the blurring of the edges of the object. So, portrait shots are just average with it. However, the color reproduction is impressive, it actually captures almost accurate colors.
Moving onto the most interesting, the low light photography shots with Tenor G adds bit noise resulting into awful shots. There is a yellowish tint whenever their’s artificial lighting. The front facing 16 mega-pixels camera has good performance it captures accurate skin tons even in the artificial lighting. It can capture 1080p videos at 60fps and has electronic image stabilization.
It comes with 3GB/32GB or 4GB/64GB variant. 10.or G comes with better hardware. It has snapdragon 626 processor with maximum clock speed 2.21GHz with Adreno 506 GPU. We’re getting a pure stock feel in this device. So along with the SD626, it would be a heavy gaming device. It has 4000mAh battery size but doesn’t have fast charge. So takes around 2.5 hours to completely charge the device.
10.OR G is priced at 10,999 for the 3GB/32GB variant & Rs 12,999 for the 4GB/64GB variant.
[table id=28 /]
9. Samsung J7 Plus(Upcoming)
Samsung is expected to unveil another new smartphone in Indian smartphone market. It is expected to come with dual rear camera setup which seems to be the only upgrade from the J7 Pro. Even the design part is same. It is expected to have a 5.5 inches Super AMOLED display. The display is quite bright and rich of colors. The build quality would be awesome just like the J7 Pro.
It would come with the 13MP + 5MP rear camera setup. The regular one is a normal Samsung sensor and the 5 megapixels is a wide angle sensor. The combination can capture awesome portrait photos with wider feel. As per as the quality is concerned, the photos with the rear camera are a bit over-exposed. Galaxy Note 8 too has the same issue. Though portrait shots seem to quite better. Shots were crisp with excellent sharpness & dynamic range. Overexposing leads to artificial colors and are bits cooler than expected. Low light photography is where Samsung phones lead. The smaller aperture which allows more light to enter, obviously capturing better shots in the low light.
It also has 16 megapixels selfie shooter which is quite better in the competition. Photos are smooth with lighter skin tones however they’re not accurate but still, it looks fine.
J7 Plus would be coming with 4 gigs of RAM with 64GB of storage which can be expanded by killing your secondary sim card. Because there’s a hybrid sim card slot. It might come with a 3000mAh battery. It will be sold both online and offline stores possibly near 18,000 Indian rupees.
[table id=29 /]
10. InFocus Snap 4
Honor 9i wasn’t the one to start the trend of four cameras, InFocus has already did it. InFocus Snap 4 is a camera-centric device and features dual rear & dual front camera setup. However, it is not a smartphone for the multitasking and gaming stuff.
InFocus Snap 4 features 5.2 inches 720×1280 pixels curved display. Snap 4 rocks a 4GB RAM with two available storage options 64GB and 128GB. InFocus uses a hybrid slot for the available storage expansion. It comes with Nougat based InLife skinned UI with a 3000mAh battery.
As the “Snap 4” describes, the smartphone has 4 cameras, the dual rear is a 13MP + 8MP setup whereas their’s a dual 8MP + 8MP setup in the front. The camera actually performs better even in the low light. While the review, InFocus Snap 4 managed to retain better dynamic range, colors were accurate, photos taken were sharp with the rear camera.
As far as the front camera is concerned, the performance as awful. The front camera adds lots of noise and sharpness was something I really missing in the photos captured with snap 4 front camera. Bokeh effect with the front camera is just okay! These all were not that big issues they can be easily fixed via a software update.
Overall, if we get a software update this phone is good for its price. However, if you can collect few more bucks, the Xiaomi MI A1’s portrait is flagship level. Plus InFocus Snap 4 would have some heating issues definitely after using it for a long time.
[table id=30 /]
So, these were the best dual-camera smartphones you can consider to buy under Rs.20,000. Obviously, any smartphone couldn’t be perfect, all have some good, better and the worst features. However, it all depends on the buyers indeed what kind of smartphone they actually need. And, the most interestingly, this budget segment of mobiles got polished a lot in past few months.
Hope, you enjoyed reading it. You can share it too if you liked it. 🙂
